The author studied the signals emitted by grasshoppers, crickets and mole cricketsHe managed to characterise them: male calls, female responses, etc., and proposes a guide to the acoustic recognition of species present in France and neighbouring regions.

The bioacoustic identification method is all the more important given that most of these species are arboreal and therefore difficult to observe. Studying their stridulation is essential for any naturalist wishing to learn more about them. More than half of grasshopper species emit high-frequency signals that are barely audible or inaudible to the human ear. These signals can be detected using ultrasound detectors, which are already widely used in bat research.
